To mark the 25th anniversary of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the 2026 B&R Publishing Cooperative Forum and Publishing Cooperative Seminar for SCO Countries was held at Renmin University of China on June 18.

Held under the theme “Cherishing SCO Literary Legacy, Translating Civilizations Together”, the forum was jointly organized by China Renmin University Press and Qingdao Publishing Group. More than 100 guests, including representatives from over 30 publishers of SCO countries and from media outlets, attended the event to discuss publishing cooperation and promote mutual learning among civilizations.


Ma Huaide, President of Renmin University of China, Rakhman Adanov, Deputy Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to China, and Yu Xueyong, Deputy Secretary-General of the Good-Neighborliness, Friendship and Cooperation Commission of the SCO, attended the event and delivered remarks. Khalil Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to China, delivered a video address.

In the copyright agreements signing ceremony, China Renmin University Press, along with Eurasia-Astana Publishing Company, Kazakhstan, and Silk Road Publishing Ltd., Uzbekistan, signed copyright agreements for the Kazakh-language edition of The Origin of Chinese Economics and the Construction of Independent Knowledge System and the Uzbek-language edition of Comprehensively Promoting Rural Revitalization.

At the event, a collection of mutually translated classic works between China and Kyrgyzstan was officially launched, including the Chinese-to-Kyrgyz title Don’t Let the Sun Fall Down and four Kyrgyz-to-Chinese titles such as Historical Sites of Tianshan and Grassland Whispers. As the lead organizer of the China-Kyrgyzstan Classic Works Mutual Translation Series, China Renmin University Press has, over the past three years, collaborated with partners from both countries to facilitate the two-way translation and publication of a total of 17 outstanding works from China and Kyrgyzstan.

The event also featured the launch of two themed publications: Timeless Treasures: The World Heritage List of SCO Member States and Pearls of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. Planned by the Secretariat of the SCO, the two books were jointly commissioned and published by Qingdao Publishing Group together with other Chinese and foreign cultural and publishing institutions. They offer a panoramic display of the splendid cultural heritage and stunning natural scenery across the SCO countries.

During the “Cooperation and Exchanges” session, Li Yongqiang, Chairman of the B&R Publishing Cooperative, Chair of the Press Council and Chairman of the Board of China Renmin University Press, presented an achievements report of the Cooperative. Li Kai, Party Secretary and Chairman of the Board of Qingdao Publishing Group, delivered a presentation on the Group’s progress in publishing cooperation with the SCO.

Subsequently, initiated by China Renmin University Press and Qingdao Publishing Group, and in collaboration with dozens of publishers from the SCO countries, the Publishing Cooperative for SCO Countries Initiative was announced.
