A delegation from China Renmin University Press recently attended the 24th Bangkok International Book Fair in Thailand, conducting extensive and in-depth exchanges with Thai counterparts to advance a new ecosystem for the mutual translation of classic works between China and Thailand.

During the Book Fair’s opening ceremony, the delegation presented Thailand’s Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn with creative gifts from Renmin University of China and two representative titles from the Research Library of China’s Independent Knowledge System: Economic History of the People’s Republic of China and Introduction to Dunhuang Studies. At the fair, CRUP showcased a curated selection of over 100 books, including the “Studies on Chinese Modernization” Series and the “Recognizing and Understanding China” Series, drawing significant attention. China Renmin University Press is the leading Chinese organizer of the China-Thailand Classic Works Translation Program, and Mr. Wang Lei, Vice General Manager of CRUP, led the delegation to visit Thai experts, together with Tao Jia, Director of Foreign Affairs Department of Guangxi Normal University Press Group Co. Ltd., a co-organizer of the program. The Thai side included Wirun Phichaiwongphakdee, Director of the Thailand-China Research Center of The Belt and Road Initiative (the program’s Thai secretariat executing agency) and the Secretary-General, Chisa Jermwarayukorn. The two sides held in-depth discussions on key topics including the translation progress, publication plans, and promotion strategies for over ten titles in Batch One, as well as arrangements for the translation and publication of titles in Batch Two.

During the visit, the delegation also visited the Thai Publishers and Booksellers Association and established extensive and close ties with local publishing houses, copyright agencies, and academic institutions, laying a solid foundation for the continued advancement of the program. In addition, the delegation donated a China-themed bookshelf to the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University.
