From September 2 to 6, 2026, the 39th Moscow International Book Fair was grandly held, with China featured as the Guest of Honour. In order to further expand the international publishing market in the Russian-speaking region and deepen academic exchanges and copyright cooperation with Russian publishing institutions, Xie Fusheng, Editor-in-Chief of China Renmin University Press (CRUP), along with representatives from CRUP joined China’s delegation to Russia to attend the fair. They participated in the China-Russia Educational Publishing Seminar, the China-Russia Copyright Negotiation Meeting and other important activities, visited a number of major Russian publishing institutions for in-depth exchanges, and promoted the implementation and wide dissemination in Russia of the results of China-Russia copyright cooperation of academic books.
On September 2, China’s Guest of Honour Event at the Moscow International Book Fair opened at the Moscow Gostiny Dvor Exhibition Center. Mao Yuansheng, General Manager of China Publishing Group Co., Ltd., Zhang Wei, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Russia, relevant leaders of the Import and Export Administration Bureau of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, and Xie Fusheng, Editor-in-Chief of CRUP, attended the opening ceremony. Russian guests included Vladimir Medinsky, Aide to the President of Russia and Chairman of the Union of Writers of Russia, and Sergei Stepashin, President of the Russian Book Union and former Prime Minister of Russia. Chinese and foreign guests jointly witnessed the exchange ceremony of the “Memorandum on Mutual Translation and Publication of Chinese and Russian Classical and Contemporary Literary Works” and the “Memorandum of Understanding on China and Russia as Guests of Honour for the 2026 Moscow International Book Fair and the 2028 Beijing International Book Fair”.
CRUP brought more than 40 high-quality titles to the fair, including The Harmony of Civilizations, How the Government Is Governed by Law, The End of the “Clash of Civilizations” Theory, New Quality Productive Forces, and the Studies on Chinese Modernization Series, which received broad attention and high praise from the Russian publishing community and local readers.
On September 3, the Russian-language copyright signing ceremony for How the Government Is Governed by Law and The Harmony of Civilizations was held in the Guest of Honour activity area of the Moscow International Book Fair. Guests from the Chinese and Russian publishing and academic institutions gathered at the scene to witness this important cultural event that promotes intellectual exchange and mutual learning between civilizations. Xie Fusheng, Editor-in-Chief of CRUP, and Andrei Nikolaevich Gordienko, President of the Russia’s “Our Word” Publishing House, signed a copyright license agreement. Relying on the international platform of the Moscow International Book Fair, this event promoted the implementation and effectiveness of China-Russia copyright cooperation. It is an important practice for the publishing industries of the two countries to deepen mutual learning among civilizations and carry out mutual exchange of ideas, opening a new chapter for regular China-Russia academic publishing cooperation.
2026–2027 are the China-Russia Education Year. On the morning of September 4, the China-Russia Educational Publishing Seminar was successfully held at Lomonosov Moscow State University. Xie Fusheng, Editor-in-Chief of CRUP, Tatyana Serebryakova, First Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Prosveshcheniye Publishers, Han Xi, Chinese Director of the Confucius Institute at Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Victoria Zarova, Academic Director of the Moscow Oriental Mandarin Center, as well as other Chinese and Russian representatives were invited to attend the seminar. The meeting held in-depth discussions on two core topics: “deepening the long-term cooperation model for the mutual translation and publication of Chinese and Russian textbooks” and “building a two-way cooperation mechanism for the localization of educational publishing products” and Xie Fusheng delivered a speech at the meeting. Participants agreed that, against the backdrop of the Internet and artificial intelligence technologies reshaping the global publishing ecosystem, it is of great significance for the Chinese and Russian educational publishing circles to strengthen dialogue and share development experience.
On the afternoon of September 4, the CRUP delegation visited Moscow University Press and held a working meeting with Maria Shustova, Office Manager. The two sides reached a consensus to deepen publishing exchanges and expand practical cooperation in the fields of humanities and social sciences and higher education in the future. CRUP presented Moscow University Press with the Chinese-Russian bilingual edition of Soviet Experts at Renmin University of China in the 1950s.
During the visit, CRUP reached preliminary cooperation intentions with a number of major publishing institutions, including Russian Science Publishing House, Eksmo Publishing House and AST Publishing House. They held consultations and formed cooperation consensus on copyright license, translation and publication of China-themed books such as The Political Economy of the Chinese Path. All parties will advance the implementation of cooperation through translation and editing collaboration, localized content adaptation, marketing, helping outstanding China-themed books enter the Russian market and further deepening practical exchanges in the China-Russia publishing field.
This visit to the Moscow International Book Fair effectively deepened two-way dialogue and mutual learning between the Chinese and Russian academic and publishing circles, built a pragmatic and efficient publishing cooperation platform connecting China and the world, and laid a solid foundation for the mutual translation of Chinese and Russian books and the cross-border dissemination of academic achievements. In the future, CRUP will continue to promote two-way people-to-people and cultural communication between China and Russia, cultivate a deeper foundation for friendly exchanges between the two countries, and help China-Russia publishing cooperation in the new era move forward steadily and achieve long-term progress.
