On November 30, 2025, the launch ceremony of the “Understanding Chinese Modernization” book series was successfully held at the 2025 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou). Two titles published by China Renmin University Press (CRUP)—Understanding Chinese Modernization: The Key to Understanding China and Chinese Modernization and Chinese Civilization—were officially released at the event.
Huang Qifan, Executive Vice Chairman of the Academic Committee of China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy (CIIDS) and former Mayor of Chongqing, Li Junru, former Vice President of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee,Wang Boyong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIIDS, Lv Benfu, Vice Chairman of CIIDS, Liu Xinghua, Distinguished Vice Chairman of CIIDS, Director of China Economy Professional Committee, and Distinguished Professor at Tongji University, Lu Xiaohua, Executive Editor-in-Chief of CIIDS’s journal “National Innovation and Development Strategy” and Dean of the School of New Media and Communication, Tianjin University, Li Jinbo, Deputy Director of the Regional and Industrial Economy Research Department of China Center for International Economic Exchanges, and Li Yongqiang, Chair of the Press Council and Chairman of the Board of CRUP, jointly unveiled the new books.
Feng Wei, Vice Chairman of CIIDS, and Li Yongqiang, Chairman of CRUP, delivered speeches successively.
In his speech, Feng Wei noted that the “Understanding Chinese Modernization” series, co-developed by CIIDS and CRUP, is a high-quality collection focused on the theory and practice of Chinese modernization, as well as an important part of the “Understanding China” brand.
Li Yongqiang pointed out in his address that Understanding Chinese Modernization: The Key to Understanding China and Chinese Modernization and Chinese Civilization are the first two masterpieces of the “Understanding Chinese Modernization” series. Compiled under the leadership of Zheng Bijian, the renowned Marxist theorist and educator, Understanding Chinese Modernization: The Key to Understanding China comprehensively sorts out and analyzes the difficulties and priorities in further deepening reform in an all-round way. Written by Li Junru, former Vice President of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, Chinese Modernization and Chinese Civilization is a theoretical work exploring how excellent traditional Chinese culture can be inherited in development and integrated with modernization.
Subsequent titles in the “Understanding Chinese Modernization” series include major works such as Embracing Ecological Civilization: The Only Option for Chinese Modernization, Chinese Modernization: Strategy and Route, The Communist Party of China and Chinese Modernization, New Driving Forces of China’s Economic Development, and Comprehensively Improving the Effectiveness of Understanding China: System Construction and Discourse Innovation. As the first university press founded in New China and a pacesetter in the “going global” initiative of China’s publishing, China Renmin University Press will publish more high-quality books that tell China’s stories and disseminate Chinese wisdom. It will also actively promote the publication of multilingual versions of the series, presenting a vivid picture of Chinese modernization to global readers and contributing valuable Chinese wisdom and solutions to advancing the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
