From July 11 to 20, 2025, a delegation led by Li Yongqiang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of China Renmin University Press (CRUP), paid a visit to Ethiopia, Kenya, and Tanzania. During the trip, the delegation held a series of activities including the donation ceremony of the China-themed Book Shelf, which aim to promote China-Africa cultural exchange and cooperation and contribute to the building of a China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.

 

 

During the stay in Ethiopia, the delegation visited the Confucius Institute for Vocational Education in Ethiopia and the Embassy of the People’ s Republic of China in Ethiopia. At the Institute, the delegation held discussions with the Chinese director of the institute and key officials of Addis Ababa University Press. In Addition, the delegation hosted a donation ceremony of the China-themed Book Shelf at the embassy and discussed on topics such as copyrights cooperation between the two presses and further integration of China’ s understanding of vocational education with Ethiopia’s practice.

 

 

In Kenya, the delegation visited the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) and donated the China-themed Book Shelf. The regional research team of AGRA showed their high appreciation and expressed the hope to strengthen future cooperation in book publishing.

 

 

In Tanzania, the delegation visited the Tanzania Branch of China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and held a book donation ceremony.

 

 

The delegation held the China-Tanzania Legal Studies Exchange Conference and Introduction Meeting on the Swahili Translation of The Civil Code of China- Real Rights: Interpretation and Comments. Li Yongqiang pointed out that the Swahili translation project on the book marks the shift of China-Tanzania cooperation in rule of law from the one-way dissemination to a two-way joint development. Legal scholars from Tanzania thought highly of the initiative and its effects on mutual learning and exchange between the two countries in the Rule of Law civilization. At the conference, the Swahili translation version of The Civil Code of China- Real Rights: Interpretation and Comments and Annual Research Report on China’ s Capital Markets were released. This event was covered by local Tanzanian TV stations and newspapers.

 

 

The delegation visited the Confucius Classroom at Zanzibar Public University in Tanzania, donated the China-themed Bookshelf, and discussed with Director Qian Mingmin on local Chinese language teaching, book demand, and other related topics.

The delegation also researched on the book markets of the three countries for a further understanding of local reading needs and preferences. The bookstore operators and readers in these countries have expressed that China-themed books hold broad prospects in the African market, and they look forward to more high-quality Chinese books in the African market to enrich local reading choices.

In the future, China Renmin University Press will join hands with African partners in writing a new chapter in China-Africa cultural exchange and cooperation, and in contributing wisdom and strength to a closer China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.
