About the Content
Over the course of its long history, China has experienced numerous domestic chaos and foreign invasions, making security a central concept in traditional Chinese culture. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, the Communist Party of China has placed national security at the heart of governance and adapted its national security strategy to the circumstances of each historical period. In Modernizing the National Security System and Capacity, the author propounds the holistic approach to national security as the centerpiece of China’s security policy and outlines the country’s efforts made in the legal, military, educational, and governmental spheres to modernize its national security system and capacity. The book also reviews China’s security thinking through a historical lens, and proposes various methods to counteract the growing threats to China’s national security.
